Amarelo da Beira Baixa is a semi-soft raw sheeps’/goats’ milk cheese from a region wedged between the flat Spanish plateau, the Alto Alentejo and the central mountains. Stone Brewing’s Sublimely Self Righteous $5.99 22 oz bottle Stone Brewing’s Sublimely Self Righteous is the closest thing to a mission statement in a bottle I’ve ever had. Smallish by the standards of the brewery, this 8.7% ABV strong ale is surprisingly fierce. Hop forward but not extraordinarily bitter, a more evergreen, almost juniper element dominates. Similarly, the malt body is surprisingly light for the alcohol content but persistently aggressive in a bitter coffee/dried mushroom kind of way. This is session beer for people who scoff at anything that doesn’t kick them in the teeth. If you’re a fan of Stone, they’re doing what they do better than ever. If you’ve never tried their stuff, one sip of Sublimely Self Righteous will instantly let you know what they’re all about. Love it or hate it, when you’re done you’ll know you drank a beer.
